Our Procurement Department has the vital responsibility of ensuring that all University purchases deliver best value in terms of cost, quality and sustainability. With an annual spend of £100 million and around 10,000 orders, the team focuses on everything from equipment for new buildings to IT systems and software and facilities and estates contracts.Acting as specialist lead buyer for a key purchasing category, you will take ownership of some significant tenders – ensuring full compliance with UK and EU regulations as you deliver substantial cost savings and benefits. Equally importantly, you will assist the Procurement Manager in more complex or higher risk negotiations and supervise and mentor a team of buyers, giving you an extremely high profile. 

What’s more, you will forge close links with the North-West Universities Procurement Consortium to share best practice and identify innovative approaches, meaning your impact will be felt far beyond the city of Manchester.

Your track record of delivering cost reduction and service improvement should speak for itself, and you will be capable of influencing our buying behaviour at a profound level. In particular, you should be adept at contract management, familiar with delivering training courses and able to manage a complex and conflicting workload. Finally, CIPS membership would be an advantage, and you will certainly be familiar with evolving legislation and best practice – and capable of making your mark on everything we do.
